Frequently Asked Questions
Why don’t you provide full documents at Stage 1?
Stage 1 is designed to be a simple intake and registration step. At this stage, we open your Case File and record your information, but we do not yet review or release any full records. This protects your privacy and ensures that sensitive documents are only handled once you’ve committed to Stage 2 (Pre-Investigation).
What happens once I move to Stage 2?
At Stage 2, a Case Manager is assigned to you. They carefully review your records, history, and goals. Only at this stage do we provide full case records, detailed feedback, and an assessment of possible next steps.
What if I cannot afford the suggested donation?
We understand financial situations vary. While we suggest donations to cover staff time, travel, and resources, we will never turn someone away because of financial hardship. Please reach out to us to discuss options.
Why do you request donations instead of charging a fee?
We are a non-profit organization. We request donations rather than charge fees because we want this service to remain accessible. Donations directly support the time, travel, and resources needed to reunite families.
Do first families in Vietnam ever have to pay?
No. First families in Vietnam will never be asked for a donation. Our focus is on helping them reconnect with their children without any financial burden.
How long does the search process take?
Every case is unique. Some searches progress quickly if there are strong leads, while others may take longer depending on records availability, travel, or DNA testing. Your Case Manager will provide a preliminary timeline once your case reaches Stage 3.
What if my search doesn’t succeed?
Even if your search does not result in a reunion, we will provide you with a complete Search Report and guidance on possible alternative pathways (e.g., DNA databases, publicity materials, or longer-term research).
Is my information kept private?
Yes. Confidentiality is central to our mission. Your records are securely stored, and nothing is shared with others (including potential family members) without your consent.
