Born in Vietnam in 1972, Jaki Clibbon’s journey began with Operation Babylift in 1975, which brought her to Australia where she was adopted by a British mother. Her childhood was spent moving between England and Australia before she ultimately returned to the UK in her twenties, where she now lives with her family.
Today, Jaki is a part-time chef and caterer specialising in Vietnamese cuisine, a culinary path she started as a way to connect with her roots. Discovering the art of Vietnamese cooking has brought her immense joy and a profound understanding of her heritage. Alongside her culinary work, she is a dedicated primary carer for her youngest child, who has highly complex needs, giving her deep, firsthand experience with neurodiversity.
Her relationship with Vietnam is deeply personal. After a complex emotional first visit at age 19, she returned in her 30s and has gone back almost every 2 years since, falling deeper in love with the country each time. While her own DNA search has not yet yielded biological connections, she holds a gentle, optimistic view that what is meant to be will happen.
As a mother herself, she feels a profound empathy for Vietnamese mothers searching for their missing children and is inspired by the bravery of adoptees searching for their roots. Witnessing the relationship between Huyen and her birth mother has brought her immense joy and inspired her to support the Con Tim Me cause wholeheartedly.
Jaki is honoured to serve as the UK Ambassador for Con Tim Me. She looks forward to spotlighting CTM’s vital work through social media, community events, and fundraising efforts, including hosting special Vietnamese supper clubs and private dinners.
